United Airlines has announced a donation of $1.25m to Donors Choose, a non-profit organization that connects the public to teachers in need of funding for school supplies and program expenses. The funds will be used to support aviation as well as science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) projects in classrooms across United Airlines’ hub markets and other selected cities.
The donation will cover the cost of all aviation classroom projects currently posted on DonorsChoose.org. The remaining funds will be used in a matching campaign to fund additional aviation and STEM-focused projects over the next few months.
Donors Choose was founded in 2000 by a public high school teacher in the Bronx, New York. The organization ensures the integrity of funding by vetting all requests, purchasing each item, and shipping materials directly to verified teachers.
United Airlines’ donation aims to inspire the next generation of aviators and scientists. By providing teachers with the necessary resources, such as model planes and simulators, the airline hopes to enrich the learning experience and ignite students’ passion for aviation and STEM subjects.
Josh Earnest, senior vice president and chief communications officer of United Airlines, expressed the company’s pride in supporting teachers and their impactful work. Alix Guerrier, CEO of Donors Choose, commended United Airlines for empowering young students and fostering the beginnings of future careers.
This partnership between United Airlines and Donors Choose will contribute to the educational development of students in various cities, offering them opportunities to explore the world of aviation and pursue careers in STEM fields.
